KUNMING MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

Kunming Medical University, previously known as Kunming Medical College, is a medical school located in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China. Founded in 1933 and has since then established itself as the largest specialized medical university of higher medical education, scientific research and medical service in Yunnan, P. R. China. KMU has trained over 70,000 graduates since its inception. KMU has three campuses. It has over 15,000 students, of which nearly 2,000 graduate students and 6,750 staff and faculties, 1,450 professors and associate professors. KMU has over 60 foreign scholars as honorary professor and guest professor. There are 13 schools, 5 research institute, 10 affiliated hospitals with about 10,000 beds and 69 practice sites which provide a stable study and practical environment for the students. Since 1998, KMU has recruited and trained graduate students, undergraduate students, advanced medical students and Chinese language learning students from 27 countries and regions.
The KMU has 13 schools, offering 15 Bachelor’s Degree programs, 34 Master’s Degree programs, and 1 Doctor’s Degree program. It has 5 research institutes, 9 affiliated hospitals, 9 teaching hospitals, 39 practice hospitals, 9 forensic medicine sites, 6 preventive medicine practice sites, 4 pharmaceutical practice sites, and 2 optical practice sites. All of this provides KMU students a stable studying and practicing environment.
With a collection of nearly 100,000 books, the university library has been designated as Yunnan’s Central Sharing Library Network of National Literature.
The 9 affiliated hospitals of Kunming Medical University have over 9,800 patient beds. Seven of the Affiliated Hospitals are accredited as Level-A Tertiary General Hospitals of China. The First Affiliated Hospital has over 3,000 outpatients per day and is the largest general hospital in the province.

Climate: Kunming is located in the low-latitude monsoon climate zone, with warm and comfortable weather throughout the year. It is never too cold in winter nor too hot in summer, and flowers bloom all year round, thus Kunming is given the nickname “Spring City”.The average yearly temperature is about 15 °C (59 °F). January is the coldest month with average temperature at 8 °C (about 46 °F), while July is the hottest month with average temperature at 18 °C (65 °F). Kunming has abundant rainfall, with annual precipitation at 1101 mm (43 inches). The rainy season lasts from May to October.The average low and high temperature is 4 °C (39 °F) and 11 °C (52 °F) in December, 2 °C (36 °F) and 9 °C (48 °F) in January, and 3 °C (37 °F) and 11 °C (52 °F) in February.

Transport: Transport: Kunming Changshui International Airport has been put into operation since June 28th, 2012. It replaced the former Wujiaba International Airport and became China’s 4th national hub airport after the airports of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Presently, there are 17 airlines companies in the airport providing flights to domestic cities and international cities and regions, including Beijing, Chengdu, Guilin, Lhasa, Shanghai, Sanya, Xian, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok, etc. Passengers can easily get to the city by air.
